Arts and Crafts Arts and Crafts style furnishings became popular in the United States between 1910 and 1925. The attention was simple in shape, with no extraneous decoration, frequently showing how bits and materials were put together. Architecturally speaking wire concealment . Arts and Crafts covers Craftsman design, operate by Frank Lloyd-Wright in Addition to the bungalow style popularized by Greene and Greene. Asian Inspired by the design components from Japan, China, Vietnam and Thailand. This appearance fuses natural fiber elements, bamboo and colours taken from nature to make a serene, calm environment. Furnishings may be lacquered or handpainted with ornamental designs, punctuated with brightly-colored accessories or statues of animals or mythical animals. Design by Erinn Valencich.



Coastal This look is inspired by the sea. It evokes a light and breezy feel by means of airy fabrics for window treatments, and the accent on nautical or beach-themed accessories like lighthouses and seashells. The classic Ralph Lauren-inspired palette of white and navy with gold accents is a stunning look for any home. Layout by Layla Palmer.



Contemporary Contemporary design often has clean, sleek lines and is marked by solid colours, chiefly muted neutrals or daring punches of colour in furniture and accessories. Furniture is sleek, lower to the floor and often has metal frames or straight legs with an emphasis on basic shapes and forms. Graphic components in art or as accents operate well with this look. Nation A rustic elegance is characteristic of the look. Some country looks are marked by extensive use of white timber paneling and soft floral designs, muted colors and pops of red, black or pure white accents. Floral, striped and checked vintage fabric patterns are criteria, and elements have a handmade, rustic quality: wood, handmade pottery, baskets and hand-forged alloy to name a few. Eclectic This catch-all style borrows from several other design styles and evokes a feeling of imagination and surprise with unexpected contrasts. The style is not simply throwing together everything and anything, but rather relies heavily on the building blocks of design (color, pattern, texture, composition) to create the space appear cohesive. English Nation A feminine look, with lush improved patterns, extensive uses of greens, reds, pinks and blues are attribute of an English Country home. Ornamental, fine carved wood furniture, overstuffed couches with tufting and skirted furniture mix with antiques and a great deal of little decorative accessories. Layout by Phyllis Harbinger.



French An ornate, fanciful and decorative style is characteristic of the appearance. Colors vary from wealthy, sun-drenched Mediterranean hues to softer, muted shades. Frequently, 1 colour or fabric is replicated throughout the space. It's characterized by rich information and extensive use of gold, bronze and gilt. Mediterranean Inspired by the coastal regions of Spain, Greece and Italy, this appearance favors colours that echo the sea and consist of terra cotta, lavender and yellow. Furniture pieces are short with ornately turned feet and legs; hardware is heavy and often burnished. Velvets, tiled and linens fabrics mix together with textured walls. Layout by Ammie Kim.



Mid-Century Modern A look originating in the '50s and '60s and epitomized by the Rat-Pack times in Palm Springs. Scandinavian architects and designers were very powerful at this time, using a design characterized by simplicity, functionality and natural contours. Architecture shows off its minimalist design with walls of glass. Pops of heavy colours like orange, yellow, olive green and chocolate brown add to decor. An upgraded version of this look is located at shops like Jonathan Adler, marked by entertaining, vibrant and quirky furnishings.



Modern Rooted in minimum, authentic use of material and absence of decoration. A clean, streamlined furniture and architecture style from the 1930s. It is characterized by a neutral colour palette, polished surfaces, strong geometric shapes and asymmetry. Design by SPI Design.



Moroccan A heavily layered look comprising brightly colored fabrics, vibrant mosaics, metal figurines, textured walls, daring, jewel-toned colours, layers of Oriental rugs and cushions in luxurious fabrics and ornately-carved wooden accents. Layout by David Bromstad.



Shabby Chic Coined in 1980 by Rachel Ashwell, this cottage-inspired look includes weathered white-painted furniture, painted motifs, floral prints in muted colors, white slipcovered sofas and vintage accessories. Traditional Furnishings are generally 18th-century English, 19th-century neoclassic, French country and British Colonial revival. Use of classic styling and symmetry to make a calm, orderly decor. Tropical A look motivated by shores of Hawaii, French Polynesia or other tropical areas. Thatched furniture, heavy prints of palm leaves and bright coloured flowers find their way onto upholstery. Muted coloured rugs or sisal and seagrass rugs cover the floor. Design by Linda Woodrum.
