Welcoming Home "I designed the foundational elements, such as the wicker couch, chairs and tables with purpose and comfort foremost in mind. Those bits are the 'bones' of the appearance and don't change," states Kelly Wilkness of My Soulful Home. Inspiration Anywhere "I've an extremely rustic-modern style, and that includes having a more neutral palette which incorporates a lot of texture," states Taryn Whiteaker. "When it comes to decorating our drier for autumn, I stick to white pumpkins and more natural textures like corn stalks and wood accents. I want it to feel natural yet tasteful and create a large impact. For this particular appearance, since the colours were very muted, I included a couple pops of metallic to help keep the eye moving across the design." "I feel that the muted tones create this porch very distinctive. I see many porches with bright orange and crimson and really traditional autumn colors. Those are gorgeous, but this gives fall a very different look," Taryn states.

Rustic Meets Metallic "I love combining natural elements with vintage pieces," states Elaine Hargrove of House of Hargrove. "The old doorway, barn-wood pumpkins and ladder, combined with live pumpkins and cornstalk, make the farmhouse mix I love." "Vintage pieces add character that makes any room unique. A Farmhouse Feel Aniko Levai of Place of My Taste likes to keep things tidy and simple for her inviting fall porch. "Maintain your front porch decor simple with vibrant mums, planters and pumpkins. Use a particular color combo which goes nicely with your front door color," she states. "I am a lover of textures that give off a warm, cozy vibe. The furry pillow along with the black and white checkered fabric add that rustic farmhouse look. Pull Up a Chair "I wished to adopt the warm tones of autumn in my own design," says Fotini Roman of Farmhouse Chic. "I really like the wealthy ambers and gold colors and the fullness of the mums." Set alongside the mums, corn stalks, gourds and Lola the dog are just two of Fotini's preferred treasures: "my sweet noodle jack-o-lanterns!" Though her Halloween canisters are a blessed vintage find, you can find the look by painting faces galvanized metal headphones you see in your own local antique and thrift shops.

Finds for Fall "I had always admired [a friend's grapevine tree], so I thought I would make one. I truly love its rustic quality," states Jane Windham of Cottage at the Crossroads. "The painted pinecone garland round the front door has been up since last Christmas, so I added a few burlap leaves to make it look more like autumn. The classic Amish wheelbarrow has been on the front porch a few decades, and that I decorate it around for each season." Jane says, "I typically begin with a color scheme or a theme when decorating the porch. I then start pulling out things that I have in my stash to see what I could utilize. I will purchase something new only if it fits into the plot or is seasonal such as mums or actual pumpkins. Luckily, I have two sisters-in-law that reside nearby and let me borrow a few things, too!"

Color Crush "During the summer, our landscape colours are primarily pinks and greens thanks to our amazing peony bushes," states Sarah Macklem of The Yellow Cape Cod. A New Take on a Fall Front Door "I love modern decoration," says Angela Neese Rathbun of Blue I Design, "so I wanted to find a way to blend that with natural elements for a comfy fall front porch. My first design inspiration were the wreaths. I loved the fresh color palette of red, plum, gray-blue and moss green, mixed with touches of traditional yellow and orange." Angela's preferred additions to her style? "I was thrilled when I found the three-tiered plant rack which lets me add layers and height to the porch in front of our static door, without making the porch feel over crowded," she states. "I love the addition of the contemporary, red lanterns into the otherwise soft colour palette, which really brightens up the porch on cold, grey days"

A Modern Spin "This season I wanted to actually capture all the best things about fall like farmers' markets, sunflowers, apples, pumpkins, mums, grasses -- all of the things which make fall feel cozy," states Jo-Anna Rooney of A Pretty Life in the Suburbs. "I especially love the addition of their twinkly lights, which provides our porch a sense of a little fall garden celebration." "I think that the best advice when it comes to decorating any space is to keep it easy. Decorate with everything you've got, and shop on your own home and yard for organic elements.
