Luxe Fabrics "The addition of lusher, richer textures that match decor is an instantaneous way to make any room feel a cozier," says interior designer Caitlin Murray of Black Lacquer Design. "Fur, velvet and Mongolian lamb are my favourite fabrics to coating for that cuddled-up vibe. The great thing about these materials is that a tiny bit here and you will completely transform the feel of a room," she says. Her guidance for integrating these substances in your living room? "Add a velvet pillow to a seat, or throw a faux-fur throw on your couch for an instantaneous dose of cozy."

Historic Architectural Details Working with a classic residence and a modern design aesthetic? "Surround yourself with beauty and positive energy."

Sizable Sectional Nothing says welcome like an oversized sectional couch. It is the ideal tool for producing an immediate sense of casual comfort. "We were able to bridge those throughout the deep, long sectional that really grounds the room in its dimensions, color and softness."

Interior designer Jenn Feldman explains why she made the choice within this living space. "We picked for an oversized upholstered ottoman with a soft shape that could easily be utilized for interesting needs, adults to break their feet on, or for smaller children to leap and play on," she says. "This ottoman packs a powerful design punch using a gorgeously soft performance fabric that contrasts with the tonal blue to the walls, art and other fabrics in the area. The outcome? A living room that will make you want to kick up your feet and stay awhile!"

Conversation Circle Try. It does not have to feel too formal or outdated. Here, Jenn created a conversation ring which feels inviting and casual. "Rather than using a classic sofa-and-chair design, we opted for four oversized, upholstered swivel chairs that created a comfortable, laid-back conversation circle, all while retaining the space polished and pulled together in grown-up whites," Jenn says.

Natural Wood Interior designer Ginger Curtis of Urbanology Designs says natural timber is a go-to when she is attempting to earn a big, open living area feel inviting and warm. "The use of natural wood in a living space not only acts as a decorative or functional characteristic, but it might provide balance by adding texture and warmth," she states. "It has an organic component that reminds you of nature and brings a comfy, unfussy look and feel to a modern space." She suggests installing large beams, plank walls or raw walnut flooring for major impact or a handmade wood dining table as an accent piece.

Fireplace Focal Point If you are lucky enough to have a fireplace, make it the star of the series. A fireplace is inherently cozy, therefore by designing your space around it, you guarantee a feeling of automatic relaxation. Carefully curate the accessories and artwork that encircle it to draw the eye, like inside designer Lexi Westergard failed here. "My client wanted to have a picture of her kids above the fireplace, so we layered some vintage art pieces around the space to help create a relaxed and curated appearance," Lexi says. She explains that the sconces assisted complete the vignette and the distance as a whole. "They gave the option to add mood lighting at night and further enhanced the capability to make an ideal, cozy space."

Large-Scale Photos Do not be scared to incorporate photos in a bold manner. Meaningful photography can produce intimacy in a way that fundamental artwork can not. Large-scale, black-and-white photographs work especially well from a design perspective. Interior designer Wendy Blackband states the horse photograph in this living area brought both colour and character to the space. "The black and white photo added the bright white. [It is] amazing but also quirky," she says.

Rustic Accents When working with white walls, such as those in this living space from Lexi Grace Design, it is very important to layer in warmth. Lexi's guidance on how to do it? "Any element that brings the outside in is a terrific way to add contrast and a bit of coziness to a bright, white space," she states. Here, a reclaimed wood mantel and a tree stump turned side desk do just fine.

Tonal Palette Interior designer Sarah Stacey suggests looking a tonal palette with a minimum use of layout to achieve a comfortable, peaceful living room. "I think people are so active, and this kind of design is relaxing and calming. It helps for you and for your eyes to break," she states. To do this look, Sarah recommends swapping out patterned draperies and cushions for solids. Find pattern in rugs or architectural components, instead. "Pick 1 color and choose varying shades of it," she says. "Then, venture in the closest color on the wheel to get a little twist, but retain it in the same tone to allow for a smooth flow and transition"

Floor Lamps Lighting is elemental in making living room ambiance. What kind of lighting emits that soft, warm glow you crave if snuggled up on the couch? A lamp, needless to say. Instead of sticking to basic table lamps, interior designer Kirsten Krason of House of Jade Interiors advises a arc floor lamp. "We love using statement floor lamps to fill up visual space and draw your attention in," she states. "A layered floor lamp with a side table generates much more visual interest than only a side table using a table lamp."

Plenty of Pillows Would you really ever have a lot of pillows? They are a quick (and relatively budget-friendly) method to bring texture, pattern and colour to your living room -- all at the blink of an eye! Take a cue from this stunning living area by Jenn Feldman, and go for a layered appearance. The game? "A couch and a space that nobody wants to leave!" Jenn states.

Layered Rugs It's a no-brainer that a rug-clad floor is cozier than the bare one, but have you ever contemplated layering a number of rugs? Interior designer Breeze Giannasio is about for it. She states it works especially well to emphasize one particular area within a larger living area. A more intimate atmosphere is encouraged by zones inside a room that is spacious. "Here I loved the idea of layering the sheepskin to make texture and make contrast with the chair swing to really highlight its suspension," Breeze says.

Dark, Inky Shade Though all-white walls continue to be ultra-popular, heavy, dark-hued interiors are on the upswing. Dark walls -- or perhaps only a dark accent wall, such as the one in this diverse living room -- work to create a sense of intimacy in a living space. Not convinced? Interior designer Noz Nozawa explains the reason why it works: "While it can seem like dark paint in a living area would feel heavy or dim, in training, it may be the reverse! In a room where the walls are dim but the trim is light, the contrast brings attention to the windows and the light from the windows, making a room that feels daring and dramatic, but still glowing!"

Textured Paneling "Improving warmth does not always want a visit to the colour wheel. Rich textures and interesting architectural details infuse warmth just as nicely!" says interior designer Marie Flanigan. "My goal was to keep things bright and light in this sophisticated guest home, so I picked for a soothing white color and delivered warmth through the usage of a texture-rich wall application," she says of this white-paneled living room. "Do not be reluctant to reimagine the classics. I fell in love with the way oversized shows provide a clean, contemporary take on traditional shiplap paneling, making a room that feels both homey and delightfully unexpected."

Her living rooms -- that one being no exception -- are marked with fabulous design, a genuine sense of coziness and plenty of houseplants. What if we take from this? Houseplants are comfy, friends. New Greenery Thus, you're pretty sure you'll never have a green thumb? That is okay, since fresh-cut greenery can deliver the exact same feeling of warmth and comfort that houseplants do. Interior designer Amy Zolin states the perfect method to incorporate greenery would be to think about your space and then consider what is just outside. For this living room in Redding, Conn., she produced a java table arrangement of blueberry bush branches. "I picked the material because of its simplicity in shape and the mention of what grows on the property. Bringing the outdoors in is an integral component to our design philosophy," Amy explains. "This chamber is casual in character but also very big in scale, and the branches filled the distance of their 10.5-foot ceilings without calling too much attention away from your view overlooking the property."

Practical Comfy Furniture When designing the hangout hub of the home, it's essential to consider the practicality and comfort of furniture. Do not worry -- this can be achieved with fashion in mind. Have a cue from designer Sandie Tsai's fabulous yet functional living space. "We'd wanted to do a nice leather couch, but because this is a rental apartment, we did not know how long we would be here or where we would wind up next," Sandie says. "We ended up with this sofa from Ikea. That sofa has definitely been adored" Sandie also utilized two condos rather than a coffee table to ensure the space was adaptable.
